Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress that works in television, film and the theatre. Her most well-known role is Teri Joe, a fiery lawyer on her role on the Showtime show Soul Food. Following her marriage the actress is now known for her role as Nikki Kodjoe. While growing up living in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. In a Maryland high school competition during her first years of training, she was awarded the title for best actress. In addition to her work in the theater as well as with The Washington Ballet Company. She earned a degree in Acting from New York University. Contractor was born from Mumbai in India and grew up in Nigeria through the age of seven. She'd been exposed to numerous travel experiences and different cultures at a very young age. She was a boarding student in London between seven and nine years old, then her family relocated into Toronto, Canada, where she spent the majority of her childhood and young adulthood. Contractor was a brilliant scholar in Toronto and was educated to become the classical ballet dancer. The Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school specializing in arts), Contractor studied both the theatre and dance. At the age of 16 and after more than 10 years of dancing Contractor decided to take up acting as a profession. She was awarded a full scholarship to study at the University of Toronto after graduating. There she earned her master's in theatre, and also double-majored in social and psychology. After a single semester at the University, Contractor went to an open call audition for the show Pericles at the prestigious, world-renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and landed the role of lead. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian critics praised her performance in 92 productions of Pericles. The opportunity was presented to her to enroll in the Stratford Conservatory, which is a private institution that accepts just eight men and four woman to study traditional theater. Contractor was eager to accept. Her place in the upcoming stage season was securing and she was chosen of Hermia.
